Meet the Pie Man

 Tom Cull is the Director and Head Chef of Dartmoor Kitchen, one of Devon’s most stylish & highly regarded catering companies, and creator of Tom’s Pies, a range of gourmet pies, tarts & cakes.

Tom possesses a raw talent that has originated from a background of eating and cooking beautiful food sourced on his own Dartmoor doorstep. He was raised in a cooking environment and has been inspired and guided by food from an early age. Tom worked at a variety of celebrated restaurants both at home and futher afield - as a head chef on private charter yachts in the carribean, and in various prestigious kitchens across Austrailia -  before using his experience & knowledge of local produce to pursue his own venture.

Tom's Dartmoor Kitchen was created in 2004. Tom converted the old barn on his family’s 40 acre organic farm near Chagford into a kitchen and started growing vegetables and making pies.  His dream was to make Devon as famous for its pies as Cornwall is for its pasties. Since the early days on the farm both sides of the business have gone from strength to strength. Tom was a finalist for Entrepreneur of the Year award 2007,starred in his own TV show in 2008 ‘Tom’s Big Feast’ (ITV),  was awarded Southwest Producer of the Year 2008 & his catering company has won Westcountry Wedding Caterer of the year 2009, 2010 & 2011. He is now recognised by some of the regions finest food organisations, producers and chefs. The Tom’s Pies range continues to win awards, 2010’s include Great Taste Gold, British Pie Awards Gold & Taste of the West Gold awards.

All Tom's pies are handmade in Devon, using the best local and seasonal ingredients. Tom's Pies ethos comes from Tom’s belief in using responsibly produced, local ingredients, and this is reflected in his insistence on sourcing only the best produce for all his food. From individual customers, specialist food shops or the wider hospitality industry, Tom works closely with all his clients to provide “honest” food with flavours and textures that will excite and tempt customers back time and time again.

In early 2010 Tom's Pies gained SALSA accreditation, one of the highest, nationally recognised, food safety accreditation schemes. The last few years have also seen substantial growth at his base in Devon. Tom’s original ethos has not been compromised and Tom’s Pies continues to produce high quality handmade artisan products, made from the best, sustainably sourced ingredients.
